The city of Charlotte, NC selected Cole to complete an ADA assessment for accessibility compliance. Cole serves as the prime ADA consultant for the city. Cole evaluated Charlotte’s public rights-of-way for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Our Responsibilities
Cole’s responsibilities entail collecting and assessing data on various features of the city’s public rights-of-way, including sidewalks, intersections, signals, bus facilities, pedestrian signage, and accessible parking.
The project aims to provide a comprehensive ADA assessment and baseline inventory of these assets, covering a vast expanse of infrastructure totaling: 2,500 miles of sidewalk, 38,000 curb ramps, 1,100 island curb cuts, 3,300 bus stops, and 2,700 signalized intersections.

Database and GIS Integration: The project employed ADA technology with the creation of a comprehensive database containing inventory and assessment data, formatted for integration with the city’s GIS system. This facilitates efficient reporting, tracking, and analysis of infrastructure assets.
Deliverables for ADA Transition Plan: The project’s deliverables, which include inventory data, assessment findings, prioritization tools, and staff training materials, will be incorporated into the city’s ADA Transition Plan. This plan will guide future efforts to improve accessibility across public rights-of-way, parks, facilities, and policies.
